Lorax Movie vs. Lorax Book

“I am the Lorax and I speak for the trees.” These words appear in the children’s book “The Lorax” written by the beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. Recently, this book has been made into a movie. Although they bear some superficial similarities, the differences between the Lorax book and the Lorax movie are striking. After watching the Lorax movie, I noticed that overall it was somewhat similar to the book. First, the three most important characters weren’t modified. Those characters were the Once-ler, the little boy named Ted, and the Lorax. To clarify, the producer didn’t completely change the group of characters. Also, the movie did flashback in time as it did in the book. What I mean is when the Once-ler tells his story about the Lorax, the Thneeds, and the Truffula trees, the story flashes back in time. On the other hand and more importantly, the Lorax movie and the Lorax book are very different from each other. To begin, a company called O’Hare Air which sells air is added to the movie but wasn't originally in the book. O’Hare Air is run by the mayor of Thneedville; Aloysius O’Hare. Thneedville is a walled-in city made of plastic, metal, and synthetics. Aloysius O’Hare is a villain who is selfish and only values the growth of his company. Furthermore, in the Lorax movie, Ted has a friend named Audrey. Due to the fact that Ted and Audrey live in an artificial world, they have never seen a tree. Audrey has always wanted to see a real living tree.Because Ted wants to impress Audrey, he decides to ask his grandmother where he can find a tree. She tells him to see the Once-ler. In the book, the author didn’t write about Ted’s life and focused more on the Once-ler and the Lorax. In conclusion, the Lorax movie and the Lorax book are somewhat similar but mostly different. There are many aspects of the book that weren't greatly modified while making the movie. The movie was able to keep the original message that the author intended to get across which was to take care of the world we live in. Therefore, despite bearing minor similarities, the differences between The Lorax movie and The Lorax book are remarkable though they need further rigorous scrutiny.
